At another time it was opened in me, “That God, who made the world, did not dwell in temples made with hands.” This at first seemed a strange word, because both priests and people used to call their temples or churches, dreadful places, holy ground, and the temples of God. But the Lord showed me clearly, that he did not dwell in these temples which men had commanded and set up, but in people’s hearts . . .

The Journal of George Fox, p65-66

I would extend this quote to include the hearts of all sentient beings. The divine does not live in buildings made of glass and stone, but within the hearts of creation. How could a cold building compare to the divine knowing itself in creation?

We have a responsibility to respect the divine - the divine in ourselves and the divine in all others. When we exploit or kill another, we are destroying part of the temple of the Holy Spirit.

May all beings know peace!

The Peaceable Kingdom

We are not of this world, but are redeemed out of it. Its ways, its customs, its worships, its weapons, we cannot follow. For we are come into the peaceable kingdom of Christ, where swords are beaten into ploughshares and spears into pruning hooks, and none shall hurt nor destroy. — George Fox, Epistle 203 (1659)
